Just 60 years ago, over 92% of American children were potty trained by 18 months. After disposable diapers and the related message to wait for "readiness” hit the scene, American kids are now potty training at about 3 years old, leaving parents wondering When is it okay to potty train? and How do I do it? The Tiny Potty Training Book answers all of these questions and more, empowering parents with accurate information and step-by-step guidance to potty train with confidence at any age. With this book parents can complete potty training in an average of 7 days, without force, coercion, sticker charts, or bribery. Toddlers 18 months and up will gain mastery and dignity through the swift and gentle method laid out in this book, complete with troubleshooting section and access to private support and the audiobook version.

I tried potty training on my own just winging it and it didn't work out. Plus I was pregnant at the time so I just gave up and went back to diapers.
I looked at different books when my husband and I were ready to try again.
2 sets of diapers is too much.
When I read the reviews here I thought you had to be doing or had done EC which we weren't. I ordered the book anyway and am glad I did. We started that weekend on Saturday and by Monday our daughter had pretty much mastered the pee part.
She had an issue with not wanting to do number 2 after she did it the first few times but some magnesium nipped that in the bud.
We followed the instructions to a tee and now 2 weeks later she is dry after naps and when waking up in the morning! We couldn't be happier. She is 2 years old and I wish I had found this book sooner.

The Tiny Potty Training Book A Simple Guide for Noncoercive Potty Training Andrea Olson 9780692433188 Books Reviews

This book was very helpful for me, I was so excited to find a method that didn't include stickers and treats. My 18 month old son has responded really well to the techniques in this book. I wasn't sure what to expect when decided to give using the potty a try but the instructions in this book have made it a really pleasant experience for both of us. Watching him play instead of being busy with other things was really refreshing and made me realize I need to focus more on him, and he flourished with this new idea because he had my undivided attention. It was a wonderful excuse to put everything else to the side and only focus on my son.
Highly effective. My 21 monthnold was potty trained in a week.
Great book! So easy to understand & follow through with. I highly recommend it. This book has helped me relax through potty training.
LOVE this book.

Our 20 month old is about 90% toilet trained. He will have a "miss" about once a day, but that is because i'm not paying attention to when he needs to go. We went 100% no diapers all at once. Although it was a bit stressful at first it was worth it.

We tried the "child directed" approach with out daughter and it took forever to get her to use the toilet, but our son was so much easier because I learned the signed and helped to teach him when he had to go. We set up a routine and most of the time there are no problems. We do have a little toilet in the living room and he will go himself when needed. Also, there is a toilet top seat in the bathroom. He always stay dry when we are out of the house and will even use a public toilet. On our recent trip to Disney he did wet himself about once a day, but that was because i didn't get him to the toilet in time. On our 7 hour car trip he stayed dry.

For nights, we put him on before he goes down and then again before we go to bed. If we wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom we will get him and put him on also.

If you put in the time THIS WILL WORK!!!!!!!!!
I had no idea where to begin with potty training. This book gave me clear direction and confidence. My 27 month old boy was potty trained in 5 days...including over night! Mind you, it was a very difficult 5 days, but so worth it! I wish I had done it much earlier. I plan to have my daughter potty trained by 18 months!

I also passed along the book to my friend who had a very stubborn 3 year old and she too was potty trained in 5 days!
After spending a year toilet training my oldest child, I felt like I failed her, and I was determined to have my second child trained at a younger age. This book was exactly what I needed. My 28-month-old and I spent a week doing the initial training experience, and by the end of the week we had made a lot of progress. I was so encouraged. I had also been waiting for my oldest to stop needing diapers at night, which wasn't happening. This book gave me the information I needed to take those diapers away and help her succeed at keeping her bed dry. She is so excited. I don't practice attachment parenting, but I didn't feel that this book was irrelevant to me. People are always saying you can't make toilet training a discipline issue, which left me feeling like I didn't know how to be in charge in this area. Andrea's book explains how to be gentle but firm at the same time, and that was a big breakthrough for me. I feel very confident now, and my girls are happy to be gaining independence.

While I really like the method, I feel that this book is overpriced because I was disappointed with the bonuses, namely the "Private Support Group". I was expecting a forum on Andrea's website where my questions would be answered by certified mentors. However, after I purchased the book I was disappointed to discover that the "Private Support Group" is just a private facebook group, where all questions are answered by fellow parents rather than professionals. Some of the advice is helpful, but some of the advice I think is bad, and sometimes it feels like people are just throwing wild guesses at me. I didn't feel like I got my money's worth because of this.
Great book!!! It gave me the courage and persistence to potty train my 16 month old when everyone said he was too young. We've been diaper free for over a month, only using pull ups on road trips (with underwear under,) and when he has a fever or is sick at night. He has misses here and there, but ultimately it was drama free and we basically ditched diapers all at once. We didn't resort to pull ups until three weeks later when he was frequently peeing at night because he was sick.
